As we sense Fall approaching, we are reminded we are part of something bigger than ourselves and that we are all connected. the following is a meditation from The Cosmic Dance by Joyce Rupp.
The Mysterious Cosmic Dance
"One day I sat and imagined some of the activity that might be taking place at that moment on the planet. In a few brief glimpses of my mind, I saw a hummingbird fly to a feeder, sipping red juices to her heart's content while, far away, a six pound infant entered the growing world of South Africa. A flabby seal off the Alaskan shores reached into the water for a walleye and in a corner of Hungary, a grandmother bid final farewell to her family. A deer in British Columbia leaped across a green valley as the stars began to sparkle in the hushed silence of evening. A Japanese family gathered for dinner, lifting their chopsticks with satisfaction, while the red soil of Utah sighed with the touch of raindrops reaching the thirsty land. Along the sultry Amazon, the humid air lulled crocodiles to sleep and in the distant South Pacific, aged volcanoes rumbled. Glaciers wept in Antarctica as they broke apart from their ancestors of ice, while descendants of Mayan Indians, wrinkled from long hours in the sun, worked their tiny patches of corn in Central America. As I gathered these moments in my imagination, I felt a much needed stillness settle in my soul. The loneliness of past days departed with my awareness of the presence of others on the planet. The truth of each one's intrinsic vitality and vulnerability filled the hollow caverns of my heart with peacefulness. The strong sense of each one's being a part of a beautiful web and pattern of life soothed the sore edges of my spirit that were crying out for hope and communion. In those few moments I knew of my membership in a never-ending family. I stood up, breathed in the life-giving air of my sisters and brothers of the cosmos, and I filled my lungs with confidence in our future."
